Greetings from Robert Leonard
Harpenden Common Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Matty's going home

Matt Brian our previous Bar Steward was visiting from Australia, but has to unfortunately go back home this week. He has had a very enjoyable month back in England.

He also fitted in a trip to Ireland and Scotland playing some of the best links courses. We hope to see you again soon.

Foxy's Golf Day

Paul Fox
who is a popular member of the common sadly was diagnosed with motor neurones disease. Motor neurone disease is a rare condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system. This leads to muscle weakness, often with visible wasting. Paul is no longer working and Marcus his son is graduating from university in America in November so what the golf club have done is arranged a Paul Fox Benefit Day to raise money for Paul to travel to America and watch Marcus graduate.

The golf day is next Friday 24th July and donations are welcome. Thanks go to next year's Captain Don Engstom for organising the golf day. There are some sponsorship opportunities on the day so contact me here for more information.

Gold and Silver Bowl

Congratulation to Marcus Fox, Ryan Hodges and Dean Hodges on winning the Knebworth Gold and Silver Bowl last Saturday. This is a team event with all three scores counting. The Gold Bowl is the gross competition and Silver Bowl is the nett. Well done for winning both competition boys and a special mention to Marcus as he came back from university in America without his clubs so borrowed Sam Claridge's irons and my Driver. Talented!! Here they are with the huge trophy.

Highland Gathering

We had a fantastic day at the highland gathering last Sunday. We were offering FREE golf lessons for juniors for the whole day. We then try to encourage them to come up to the club and participate in more club activities. This could be junior lessons, adult membership or using the facilities. I think the pitch looked great and I personally would like to thank Alex Thurgood, Pat Eames and Peter Rushbrook for helping during the day.

New in for the juniors: MKIDS

Advantages of MKIDS:

These colourful clubs are all swing weighted to ensure the clubs are not too heavy. The grip size increase and decrease with length of the clubs to ensure that children do not struggle to hold onto the club or grip it too tight due to being too small. The Drivers, fairways, hybrids and irons are all fitted with high performance grafalloy prolaunch shafts to help promote a faster swing speed and a higher ball flight. The Clubheads are larger, have a lower centre of gravity to help a higher ball flight and more forgiving than usual junior clubs to help maximise bad shots, this will also aid their confidence. They are designed with an easy colour coded eight system for which size of club the child may need as opposed to previous club manufacturers that did it in ages which may not have been entirely accurate but now with MKIDS we have a colour coded size chart which gives the children their very own custom feeling.

Callaway Fitting Day

We are holding a Callaway Fitting Day tomorrow (Friday 17th July). There are still spaces remaining click here to book a space.

Titleist Fitting Day

We had a very informative Titleist fitting day last week using the state of the art radar tracking devise to improve the participants shots. We had 7 members fitted and I will update you with their progress over the coming weeks. Here is a few pictures from the day.
