Person Profiles
To keep you updated here is the Pro Shop Team with some of our aims and a tip a couple of tips to help you with your golf.
Rob Leonard - I am 30 years old I have been Head Pro of Harpenden Common for 3 years and I'm looking forward to a fantastic year ahead. My playing aim this year is to play in regional tournament and prepare properly to give myself the best chance of performing. As an amateur I graduated through the Junior Section at Harpenden Common so one of my Coaching aims is to increase the Junior Academy participants. With the intention of converting them into Junior members. I am also getting involved in disabled coaching by being golf coach to the Special Olympics St. Albans and I currently coach at two deaf schools.
Tip - In this cold weather make sure you warm up before you tee off. Swinging with two club is a great way to get your muscles ready for the game ahead.
Josh Emerton - I am 19 years old and I have been in the pro shop team for 3 years. I have been a member of Harpenden Common for 7 years and won the Junior Club Championship 3 years running from 2012. My playing highlights last year was getting televised on sky sports in the Trilby Tour. I am currently playing of a 3 handicap with my target this year is to get down to scratch. I will start the PGA Qualification as soon as I have completed my Btec Diploma which I am currently partaking. I am also a fully qualified disabled golf coach so I will help Rob with these sessions.
Tip - A good challenging practice in the winter is to tee off with an iron to leave you a longer than normal shot into the green. This will really challenge your approach shots.
Harry Topping - I am 15 Years Old and I am a current member of the Junior section. I hold a playing handicap of 11 and last year I won various competition which lead me to becoming Junior Player Of the Year. . This year my target is to get down to a 7 handicap by playing in local junior opens and also compete within the junior section at the golf club. I am still studying at school so you will see me mostly at the weekends.
Tip - Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail. My base layer in the winter is very important to me as it keeps me warm without restricting my swing. In addition hand warmers are vital in providing you with excellent feel around the greens.
