Greetings golfers, 

Well, what a week it has been at Harpenden Common. Last weekend we held the Club Championship and despite spending Friday on the course selecting tricky pin positions - or so I thought - the scoring was still very good! There's a full recap below. Enjoy this week's read. 

67 & 71 wins Club Championship

Last weekend was the Club Championship with 79 golfers competing for the trophy over 36 holes. A lot of preparation goes into the day and credit goes to the green staff and management for organising the event. Matty and I on Friday chose the flag positions for the day and I thought there were some tricky ones.

However, Ben Miller - who is only 16, and therefore still a junior - had two fantastic scores of 67, 71 to clinch the victory, despite the tricky pin positions.

The results were:

1. Ben Miller - 67, 71 = 138
2. Kevin Hurley - 71, 70 = 141
3. Alex Turner - 75, 69 = 144
4. Louis Hindle - 74, 70 = 144
5. Ian Farrent - 70, 74 = 144
6. Josh Emerton (custom fit expert) - 74, 73 = 147

Well done to Kevin Hurley too as Ben did not enter the sweep, so Kev picked up the 1st gross and nett sweep!

Is it summer or winter?

This week we have had two Captain/Pro matches in totally different weather conditions. First up was Steve Hallem and Amin Dalton, which unfortunately was played in horrible condition, however, Steve and Amin were very much on form and beat us 1 up. Well done boys.

Next up were Past Captains, Brian Macdonald and John Knock, and this was played in much nicer weather. It was also nice to play the day after the Club Championship to see how hard the flag positions were. When we clinched victory 2up I decided the flags were not too bad! We will see if I can make them more challenging next year.

Golf in the community

Last week I visited Foxholes Care home in Hitchin and offered a golf session to the residents. It was a fantastic event with apparently more people giving golf a try than any previous activities. I would like to thank all the staff and residents at the home who made it a great success. Here are the team.
