Bob and Janet Australia trip
It was great to see a picture of Janet and Bob Coomber in Austrailia with Christine and Graham Blum and Matty Brien and his Dad.
Christine used to be the Professional here at the Common and also Matty was the character behind the bar.

Tip from George
With the cold weather layers is the key. Wearing lots of thin layers will keep you warm and not restrict your swing. Start with a base layer, then a polo shirt followed by a lamswool jumper then a waterproof/windproof jacket.
Thanks George!
With this quote 'George's Tip' to recieve 20% OFF any Base Layer.
Ladies Group Session
On Monday we had the first ladies group session. The attendees were as follows: Karen Ellam, Gill Foster, Gill Hanson and Bernie Young. We had a great session and stayed warm by practicing more efficiently. For example if you practice for 1 hour break this up into 3 sections.
- 15 minutes warm up - start with a few stretches then half swings only, with the cold weather you do not want to pulling any muscles!
- 20-25 minutes technique - This is working on one club to ingrain any swing changes you have made or creating a smooth rhythm.
- 20-25 minutes game play - This is to create a game situation, pick a target and record how many time you hit the target with a pre decided number of balls. Do this with a range of clubs, record these results to see an improvement.
Individual Lessons
Here are a couple of my keen golfers getting a sneaky lesson in despite the weather so that they can have a fast start to the season.
Mike Elliot- Mike wanted to have a lesson on chipping we focused on 'pitching points' in relation to the length of his swing. This helped Mike as previously he was just gauging distance by feel.
Kevin Luckhurst - Kevin is getting ready for an exciting trip to Dubai so we were working on creating a consistent strike. We worked together to find a few drills that he could take with him as a reminder of the lesson.

PING G series - Coming Soon
This week you can read about the new G range from PING. PING started some 12-14 years ago with the G2 range of woods and irons. They then produced the G5, G10, G15, G20, G25 and then the G30. Available to purchase from 11th February is the new G range and it promises to be the best yet.
The G range of irons joins the new i range along with the GMax which were launched last August. Looking at the back of the iron, you will see the COR eye technology that was seen in the GMax iron. This technology increases ball speeds across the whole face, but combine this with a higher launch and the ball travels higher, therefore further but lands softly on the green, no matter where it was struck on the face.
The irons are using a highly controlled heat treating process so as to make the face thinner and faster for extra distance.
The weight saved from the face has been added to the perimeter to make the club even more forgiving than its predecessor the G30.
So the new G iron gives more distance, forgiveness and control with the look and feel that creates confidence with any shot.
Joining the iron range is a brand new wood and hybrid collection. I will be discussing these in a little bit more in depth over the next few weeks as these are not available to try until February. I should have all the demo irons in store by this Friday so we can get you fit for them and get them on pre-order to arrive on the first available date.
In the mean-time, click here to visit my website where you can find out more about the brand new G series.
Click here to get in touch if you would like to be one of the first to try these out with a fitting here at Harpenden Common.
